Samsung CX Lab

I was the Acting Director for the Customer Experience Lab (“CX Lab”) of Samsung from February 2017 to June 2018. Our lab focused on future products and services for Samsung in the Smart TV, displays, audio, voice UX, and home entertainment product space, including IoT. Our 30+ interdisciplinary team consisted of interaction designers, visual designers, prototype engineers, user researchers and producers. This page summarizes some of the recent commercialized services and products designed by our lab.

Universal Guide (2018)

Announced at CES 2018, Universal Guide aggregates content from live TV and streaming providers, giving users a centralized place to quickly find what to watch or listen to on their Samsung Smart TV. Separate sections are provided for recommendations, TV Shows, Movies, Sports and Music.

IoT Dashboard on Smart TV (2018)

Also announced at CES 2018, IoT Dashboard allows users to check, monitor and control their IoT devices from their Smart TV.

The Frame (2017)

A new lifestyle TV from Samsung that shows art or photos as the new “off” mode, The Frame is “the most beautiful TV you’ve never seen.” Our lab designed the Art mode UX for The Frame. The industrial design, combined with the built-in light and color sensor work together to define a device that looks like a regular piece of art vs. a consumer electronics device. See the Wallpaper interview with Jimin Kim, a visual designer in our lab, and the video about The Frame in the Albertina museum.

Smart View App for Smart TV and Frame (2017)

The Samsung Smart View app brings content browsing and control of the Samsung Smart TV and The Frame to the user’s mobile phone.
