{"id":181,"date":"2018-01-21T17:50:44","date_gmt":"2018-01-21T17:50:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.staciehibino.org\/stacie\/?p=181"},"modified":"2018-08-04T20:45:27","modified_gmt":"2018-08-04T20:45:27","slug":"photo-identity-kodak-blog-april-24-2007","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.staciehibino.org\/stacie\/blog\/2018\/01\/21\/photo-identity-kodak-blog-april-24-2007\/","title":{"rendered":"Photo Identity (Kodak Blog, April 24, 2007)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>NOTE: This is a \u201creprint\u201d of my blog post to Kodak\u2019s previous \u201cA Thousand Words\u201d blog.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Recently, Gideon D\u2019Arcangelo gave a talk on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baychi.org\/calendar\/20070313\/#1\">Active Listening: Social Identity in the New Music Economy<\/a> at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baychi.org\/\">BayCHI<\/a> March monthly meeting.&nbsp; If you listen to Public Radio, you may already know of Gideon from his <a href=\"http:\/\/listeningin.org\/\">Listening In<\/a> radio documentary series on American Public Media\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/weekendamerica.publicradio.org\/\">Weekend America<\/a>, or his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.listeningin.org\/index.php?s=walkman+busting\">Walkman Busting<\/a> segments that he produced for Public Radio International\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wnyc.org\/shows\/tnbt\/\">The Next Big Thing<\/a>.&nbsp; Part of Gideon\u2019s BayCHI talk focused on \u201cMusic and Identity.\u201d&nbsp; MP3 players now let us carry so many songs with us, that we can literally carry our whole music collection with us wherever we go.&nbsp; If we can carry all of our songs with us, we can listen to any song we want to at any given time, from any given place.&nbsp; The music we are playing at any given moment from our MP3 player can now reflect more of our identity, rather than a reflection of the limited amount of music we can carry at any given time.&nbsp; In his <em>Walkman Busting<\/em> series, Gideon stopped people on the street and conducted short interviews on what they were listening to, as well as other music in which they were interested.&nbsp; This whole notion of how the music we listen to can be a reflection of our identity got me thinking\u2026 is there a parallel to this related to pictures?&nbsp; That is, how are the pictures we carry with us a reflection of our identity?<\/p>\n<p>Over the past few days, I started my own sort of \u201cPhoto Busting\u201d or \u201cLooking In\u201d activity.&nbsp; I basically asked people if they wouldn\u2019t mind showing me the wallpaper on their cellphone and explaining what the photo meant to them.&nbsp; Here are some samples of what I found:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/staciehibino.org\/core\/images\/kodakBlog\/2007_04_24_cat.jpg?w=200\" alt=\"street art\"  data-recalc-dims=\"1\"> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i2.wp.com\/staciehibino.org\/core\/images\/kodakBlog\/2007_04_24_street_art.jpg?w=200\" alt=\"cat\"  data-recalc-dims=\"1\"> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/staciehibino.org\/core\/images\/kodakBlog\/2007_04_24_colorado\" alt=\"colorado\" width=\"200\"><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Joe, a twenty-something student from the Art Institute of California in San Francisco captures street art that he likes and uses that as his wallpaper on his cell phone;<\/li>\n<li>Lindsay, a twenty-something single professional from San Francisco has a picture of her cat;<\/li>\n<li>Dave, a thirty-something software engineer from Rochester has a picture from a recent trip to Colorado.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>What about you?&nbsp; What photo(s) do you carry with you all of the time (e.g., such as on your camera phone) and what do they say about your identity?&nbsp; Here are three ways you can share your answer to this question:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Leave a note in the comments section<\/li>\n<li>Fill out the short online survey<\/li>\n<li>Upload a picture to flickr and tag it with <em>photo_identity<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If we get enough responses, I will provide a summary of the results in a follow-up posting!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NOTE: This is a \u201creprint\u201d of my blog post to Kodak\u2019s previous \u201cA Thousand Words\u201d blog.
